Self contained Accommodation:
Countrydale offers a fully furnished, comfortable three doubled bedroom home,
which comfortably sleeps six people. The bedrooms include one queen, one double
and one twin bedroom. There is also a quite reading room.
The open plan living area
welcomes you with the warmth and ambiance of a log burner, informal lounge and dining and for your amusement an entertainment centre including a variety
of DVDs and videos. The fully equipped kitchen facilities include a
dishwasher and microwave.
Attractions close to Countrydale
include the Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre and the Mount Bruce Pioneer
Museum. Bush walks, picnic areas, hunting and fishing facilities are located
nearby in the Ruamahunga
River area and the
Tararua mountain range. While at Countrydale, take the opportunity to visit
friendly Eketahuna, just 15 minutes away by car or take a leisurely walk to
visit the historic Norwegian Methodist church. In the evenings enjoy a warm
drink on the front deck as you gaze high into the clear night skies
History of the Local Area: The district was settled by immigrants from Denmark and Norway during
the 1870s. Scandinavians came to New Zealand to clear the dense bush
clad country commonly referred to as the "Seventy Mile Bush".
Settlers were each allotted 40 acres of land, partly in exchange for clearing
the land for roading. Before the land was settled, immigrants lived in a
transit camp at Kopuaranga. Individual family histories can be found on
tombstones in the graveyards at the Lutheran
Church at Mauriceville
West and the historic Norwegian Methodist church near Countrydale. Countrydale
farm is sited on one of the original settlement allotments.
